"The strong relationship our teams have across all areas continues to provide improvements and we are constantly challenging each other to achieve better ways of working"
Matthew Rowlatt, Community Operations Director, Veolia Water
Operating in the South East of England, Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions works closely with Veolia Water to provide an end to end repair and maintenance solution, from the planning and scheduling of works to informing customers of interruptions to supply and liaison with third party stakeholders including local councils, Highways Authorities and other utility asset owners.
Local councils are becoming increasingly concerned with reducing disruption and congestion in the highways, introducing permit to work and lane rental schemes in many areas. To mitigate this, we have continued to focus on finding innovative and flexible ways of working which allow our works to be carried out as quickly as possible, whilst conducting significant research into ‘crowd psychology’ to ensure that our sites pose minimum risks to members of the public.
Having a dedicated planner integrated within Veolia Water’s planning department gives us greater visibility of future works, allowing us to proactively and collaboratively plan our operations and customer service communications.
Leakage targets are high on the regulator’s agenda and in 2009/10 Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions worked as a team to Veolia Water to achieve its all-time lowest leakage rate. The work our team carries out will continue to help Veolia Water reduce its leakage levels, resulting in a network better able to face the demands of the 21st Century.
