Changing rooms at Norfolk Community School

With paint brushes in hand, a team from Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions painted three classrooms at the Norfolk Park Community School in Sheffield, over the Easter break.

The school incurred damage following the severe floods last summer and since this time they have been working hard to repair and redecorate the school. The BBUS Business Development team volunteered to re-paint three classrooms to provide some practical support.

The school provides education for children who have severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties. They work in partnership with parents to promote each pupil's intellectual, physical, emotional and social development; thereby enriching the quality of life for all the children.

Jonathan Chapman, BBUS Head of Business Development spoke about the challenge:

"We were delighted to help out at Norfolk Park, it was a pleasure to meet the teachers and see what fantastic facilities are available.

"To make the task more competitive, we treated the day as a team building exercise and split the team into three groups. They were allocated a budget and given the opportunity to come up with additional ideas to add value to each room.

"We were so impressed with the school and its dedication to the children we are planning to go back again to help with another project!"

Each team was judged and marked by the school staff for quality of work, teamwork, communication skills, creativity, planning and organisation.

When the painting was completed, Pam Coleman, Head Teacher at Norfolk Park and her staff were unable to choose an overall winner therefore all three groups were thanked for their efforts.

Pam Coleman said:

"The teams were tremendously enthusiastic, had great team spirit and showed more than a hint of competition!"
