Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions is proud to be hosting its annual charity ball on Friday 26th September, to raise money for Brake, the road safety charity, at the Alton Towers Hotel in Staffordshire.
On average, nine families every day in the UK must be told that a loved one has died suddenly and violently in a road crash. Many of these deaths are children and young people. Brake is a national road safety charity that exists to stop deaths and injuries on UK roads and to care for people who are bereaved and seriously injured by road crashes every year.
The annual ball will raise money for the 'Parent Module' of Brake's Road Safety Academy, which trains parents about keeping their families safe on the roads, in particular their children. The parent module encompasses the 'Stay Safe Family Promise'; encouraging families to take care when travelling and walking.
The 'Stay Safe Family Promise' offers tips for all the family to learn how to cross the road safely using the Green Cross Code, how to use seat belts, restraints and child car seats, also staying safe whilst driving. The campaign asks people who sign up to make a promise to:
1. Always cross roads safely
2. Always belt up in our car
3. Never break speed limits or drive dangerously
Brent Mitchell, Chairman of the BBUS Charity Committee (Head of Support Services) said: "Last years charity ball raised over £16k for NCH, Balfour Beatty's chosen charity, so we are hoping to raise even more this year for Brake. The Stay Safe Family Promise is an excellent campaign and one that we want to encourage all our employees to join up to during Road Safety Week in November.BBUS will be running a range of activities across the UK during Road Safety Week, from 10th to 16th November."
Sarah Fatica, Brake's General Manager said: "The
continued support of Brake's corporate partners is essential to
enable Brake to continue its work in improving road safety and
supporting victims of crashes. BBUS continue to demonstrate its
commitment to road safety and determination to make the roads safer
for their employees and all other road users, through its generous
support of Brake."
The BBUS ball in 2007, attended by employees and suppliers, included a charity auction with a wealth of fantastic prizes, including tickets for the 2008 Grand Prix, a framed Manchester United Shirt signed by Roy Keane and there will be another impressive charity auction this year.
