Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions has been recognised by National Joint Utilities Group, (NJUG) at their inaugural awards ceremony, by receiving two awards, the World Class Award and the Partnership Award.
The Awards ceremony held on Tuesday 2nd December at the Atrium restaurant, London, gathered people from across the Utility industry to present six awards, to recognise companies who have delivered projects that matched the objectives of the NJUG vision. The awards were hosted by Theresa Villiers MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, with representatives from the Highways Agency and all the leading utility companies in attendance.
The BBUS World Class Award entry was based on its new Belief Based Behavioural Safety programme, which promotes end-to-end ownership by teams and individuals to improve the health and safety culture. The programme incorporates interactive seminars, workshops and practical resources to make real changes in workplace behaviours, which will affect the long-term culture.
Phil Brookes, Managing Director of BBUS said: "BBUS is delighted to have won the World Class Award in recognition of our proactive Behavioural Safety initiative, as safety is our number one priority.
"We are also thrilled to have won the Partnership Award jointly with fellow utility service providers and utility companies. This co-ordinated partnership approach is one of the key areas BBUS wishes to encourage and promote as business as usual. We believe that Highway Authorities across the UK should use this model as a shining example of how works in the public highway can be co-ordinated effectively, to reduce disruption to the road user and reduce durations of works."
The BBUS Partnership Award entry was based on a project in Kinver in Staffordshire, working with Staffordshire County Council and a number of partners to reduce an estimated twenty weeks work, to seven weeks. The partners identified numerous works and assessed them strategically for joint occupation benefits, before the works took place. BBUS worked alongside partner teams such as: National Grid, Central Networks, ABB, Staffordshire County Council and South Staffs Water.
