BBUS has been honoured by the Pipeline Industry Guild, by receiving the Utility Pipeline Technology Award, for their Vertical Valve Injection kit.

The BBUS Innovation and Development team received the Pipeline Industry Guild Award at the annual awards ceremony, on Wednesday 10th March.

The Vertical Valve Injection kit provides a simple yet unique solution using a combination of already proven pressurised injection technology along with an innovative step change in application. It repairs leaking water sluice valves using PTFE injection with no excavation, in less than 45 minutes.

Mike Brockhurst, BBUS General Manager for Innovations and Development said: "We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award, as the VVI kit is a simple application of an existing repair system, however these improvements provide a large number of benefits to our clients including zero excavation.

"The BBUS I&D team is dedicated to generating new, innovative ways of working which allow our operation teams to work with the most advanced and least distruptive techniques. Our Innovations Senior Project Manager Ted Twell designed this new application and we are delighted that his applied engineering idea won the P.I.G. Award."

BBUS were finalist for three awards on the evening for their innovations: Vertical Valve Injection Kit, the Water Meter Adaptor and Live Camera Detection and Inspection. Quite simply the unique Vertical Valve Injection kit, launched in 2008, offers the following benefits to BBUS clients:

  • One team, one visit
  • Increased productivity
  • No excavation required
  • No need to operate the valve
  • No turning off water mains
  • No interruption to supply to customers
  • No risk of discoloration
  • No reinstatement required
  • Low cost equipment
  • Low cost consumables
  • No damage to valve body

The Vertical Valve Injection kit is a very simple and smart design idea, giving the BBUS operation teams a solution to repair leaking water valves, which removes a long list of issues which its clients face on a daily basis.
