Company recognised by The Society of British Water and Wastewater Industries

Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions has received recognition for its robust Health and Safety management system with success at the 2009 SBWWI Awards.

The awards recognise good practice within the British water and wastewater industries, and BBUS received the Health and Safety Award at the Society's AGM and Awards lunch, held at the Hilton Hotel in Warwick on November 4th. Such recognition demonstrates BBUS' determination to maintain and develop its strong Health and Safety culture, in line with its commitment to achieve ZERO HARM across the business by 2012.

The winning submission showcased BBUS' fully audited procedures for minimising risk, its adherence to H&S expectations that go over and above the minimum requirements and its commitment to a range of industry leading initiatives - in the areas of training, occupational health screening, near miss reporting, workplace inspections and behavioural safety.

BBUS was able to point to evidence of significant reductions in road traffic collisions, injuries to members of the public and lost time injuries, while tangible successes since the beginning of its ZERO HARM journey proved that the business is continually seeking new ways to safeguard its employees and members of the public.

Brent Mitchell, BBUS' Head of Support Services, said: "This is fantastic recognition of the efforts we have made to reduce the risk of people being injured as a result of our works. At BBUS, we are in a privileged position where we are able to challenge every aspect of the way we go to work. We have a long way to go to achieve ZERO HARM but, as this SBWWI Award shows, we have made an excellent start."
