Description of Works
Phase one - Closure of Vale Road between the Gilgal and Worcester Road
The work to replace the water mains pipe starts at 1830hrs on Friday 18 September 2009 when Vale Road between the Gilgal and Worcester Road will be closed for a section of mains pipe to be installed towards the Gilgal. This will be completed and Vale Road re-opened by 0700hrs Monday 21 September 2009. Access to the Gilgal will still be available long Vale Road from Stourport.
Phase two - Closure of the Gilgal
The Gilgal will be closed from 0700hrs on Monday 21 September 2009 until 1800hrs on 25 October 2009 for 5 weeks to carry out water mains replacement and street lighting work. Access to properties along the Gilgal will be available but it will strictly not be open to through traffic. A plan of the diversion routes is attached below.
This phase of work will also include a lane closure from the roundabout at Worcester Road/Hartlebury Road to the junction of the Gilgal, the junction of Worcester Road/Baldwin Road as well as Baldwin Road and Mill road electric works. Traffic travelling into Stourport will still be able to use the existing route.
Diversions will be in place and we will be taking advantage of the longer daylight hours and will be working weekends to complete the works in as short a time as possible.
Phase three - Remaining works following the re-opening of the Gilgal
The work to finish the water pipes renewal and the electricity cable work will start on Monday 26 October 2009 and last for 4 weeks until Sunday 22 November 2009. One of the two lanes on Mitton Street will be closed to allow the work to be done.

You may experience some interruptions to your water and electricity supply during the works. For water supply interruptions it is our intention to warn businesses at least 7 days and residential properties at least 48 hours before any interruptions take place. For electricity supply interruptions you will receive at least 5 days advance notification.

All work in Stourport is now complete. As with Gilgal, the work in Mitton Street was completed two weeks ahead of schedule. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and co-operation throughout.
Even though Mitton Street will be closed over the Halloween Weekend, Stourport is still open for business as usual. In addition there will be a Halloween events including boat trips, monster bashes and canal heritage workshops. Event flyers are attached below and for more information visit www.stourporttown.co.uk .
Vistors will be encouraged to use the diversion routes as attached below or to park outside of the town and walk into the centre.
Unfortunately the final stages of the water mains work we are doing have become more difficult to do as a result of unforeseen conditions (ground conditions), combined with the proximity and location of other existing essential underground services. Simply, both a safe walkway for pedestrians and a safe operating area for the workforce cannot now be achieved.
The safest way to complete these works is to fully close Mitton Street between the junction of Worcester Road and Lion Hill)
The closures will take place as follows:
From 0600hrs Saturday 31st October and 0600hrs Monday 2nd November
and
From 0600hrs Saturday 7th November and 0600hrs Monday 9th November.
We apologise for any inconvenience this change in work plans will cause.
Details of diversion routes are attached below.
We are pleased to confirm the Gilgal will re-open at 6am on Thursday 15th October, a week and a half ahead of schedule.
Work will then move into Mitton Street where a lane closure will be put in place to complete the remaining works. Work is anticipated to take approximately 4 weeks.
We are pleased to say work on the Gilgal is ahead of schedule.
Week 3
The programme of work for the next week will include the following:
- Take existing services off the old water main
- Install new services to properties
- Attach new services to new main
- Abandon old main
We would like to hear your feedback, therefore, we will be bringing our Customer Service mobile unit back to the Co-op Supermarket in Lombard Street on Tuesday 6th October 2009 between 10am and 4pm.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Severn Trent Water runs a compensation scheme for businesses who have lost profits as a direct result of their works on the highway. If you feel that your business has been affected by the road closure on the Gilgal a copy of the information booklet and claim form can be downloaded from the attachments below.
Work has been progressing well this week and is currently on schedule.
You may be interested to know that due to the type of work we are carrying out it is necessary to dig an excavation, then move to another part of the site to carry out other pieces of work before returning to the excavations. If you sometimes can not see our teams, it doesn't mean they have gone home early it just means they are working on another part of the site. We would like to reassure you that we are working very hard to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible and are working 7 days a week to ensure this happens.
For the duration of the work there will be alterations to some bus routes. Details can be downloaded from the attachments below.
Should you require further information, please contact the Worcester Hub on 01905 765765 or www.worcestershire.gov.uk/travelnews
Thank you to everyone who has visited us so far on the roadshow. We have received many questions regarding diversion routes so you will now find a diversion plan attached below.
