Description of Works

We are currently carrying out the first phase of a £4.4 million mains sewerage project on behalf of United Utilities in both villages. This scheme will provide residents with the opportunity to connect into a new mains sewerage system which will help to reduce the instances of pollution to local rivers and watercourses.

The site operatives carrying out the main construction works on our behalf are employed by a local company with a wealth of experience in completing projects of this nature. They have recently successfully completed several similar schemes in North Cumbria. Many of their employees live in the local community and are very aware of the specific requirements of this type of rural location. They will be happy to help and advise on any day to day queries you may have during the works.

Due to the depth of the excavations required and the large plant and machinery used to lay the new pipes we will work in fenced- off areas approx.100 metres in length.

We will close these short sections of the road in both villages to all through traffic. We will reinstate and re-open individual sections of public highway before moving onto the next 100 metre length.

Local diversion routes will be sign-posted on surrounding roads leading to both villages. These signs which comply with Highway Authority requirements are in place to direct all types of vehicular traffic to the recommended alternative routes to enable them to safely avoid our construction areas.

Any other roads without diversion signage in place may not be suitable for all types of vehicles and are therefore not an approved alternative route around the works. We respectfully advise that you consider the suitability of any non sign-posted alternative route for your type of vehicle prior to its use.

We will do our best to minimise inconvenience to the local community and visitors to this idyllic part of Cumbria

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and co-operation during this essential work to help  protect the local environment for future generations.
